Jivanas™ sustainable footwear is designed in California and ethically-crafted in Nepal. Our shoes are handmade utilizing traditional methods and Italian vegetable leathers. In a country where unemployment and human trafficking exist at exorbitant rates, our mission is to provide fulfilling employment opportunities. This in turn promotes dignity and financial gain for families, surrounding villages, and ultimately the country of Nepal. VERTICALLY-INTEGRATED Unlike most footwear brands, we completely own and operate our workshop. This allows us to ensure healthy and fair working conditions for the craftsmen who make our shoes. All of our employees receive wages above fair trade guidelines, healthcare, and a safe working environment. From raw material to consumer, visibility of our supply chain means no compromises on ethics or quality. TRADITIONAL METHODS Our hand-lasted shoes feature traditional, Italian vegetable-tanned leathers and all-leather soles. Vegetable tanning is a centuries-old process that utilizes extracts from organic materials like tree bark and leaves. These techniques are more time-consuming and intricate than typical industrial processes, but make for a higher quality and completely biodegradable product.
